"Sgt Rock is going to
help me make the floor mine" (Norman Cook)
THE SCOOP:
The Sergeant is the alter ego of Mr. Jim Burke, member of the rocking
Junior Blanks. You might know him as vocalist with Coca Cola faves
Collapsed Lung (Eat My Goal!)
Jim's aim to hit the nation's dancefloors with the taste of his home-brewed
acid-Pfunk. His best known track thus far has been the stomping Deeper
'n' Deffer which featured on Fused & Bruised's Day Trip To Brisco
EP, recieving fantastic reviews and much love from Norman Cook. With
the reputation as a bracingly eclectic DJ which subsequently earned
him the sole invite to play at John Peel's 60th birthday party at
Peel Acres as well as a string of remixes for the likes of Mucho Macho,
Delakota and Q-Burns, Sgt Rock is fast becoming a name to be reckoned
with. He doesn't want us to mention his Billie remixes, but we think
they rock!
The super squelchy Supadickie was his first 12 inch for us, which
we've just followed with Yeah Word Party his first proper release,
it reminds us of Parliament reinterpreted by the Art of Noise.
Update:
The Sgt released his splendid album 'Live The Dream' in the summer
of 2000. |
