Fabric were, for a time, the U.K.s premier independent hardcore act. Whilst influenced by the early nineties wave of genre bastardising American bands like Universal Order of Armageddon, Nation of Ulysses and Slint, Fabric retained a unique British originality. Their two singles on Whole Car were well received and written about in the underground press all over the U.K. Their debut American single, on cult hardcore label Dog House sold vast amounts to an audience known for their disdain of foreign bands. The inclusion of the epic Without on the CD, its first proper U.K. release, in particular demonstrated the diversity and subtlety within their raging sound.
